Visual artist and poet • Studied in Athens and Paris • He stopped his studies at the level of Doctorat d’ Etat, under J.F. Lyotard • In 1969 his first collage is published and he has his first solo exhibition, showcasing lead sculptures • He is the editor of two literary and art magazines published in Athens, Lotus (Λωτός, 1968-1972) and Praxis (Πράξη 1972) • His first book of poetry is published in Athens in February 1974 • Since 1970, he has been a regular contributor of essays, articles, poems, and drawings to many magazines • In 1975 his first Performance takes place at an art gallery in Athens • In 1976, using synthi100, he creates the music score of his film Saga of a city • The same year he starts creating mixed works of visual poetry • From 1986 onward, the lightning phenomenon is at the core of his research • A prolific artist, Costis has had 32 solo shows in galleries and museums in Europe and has participated in more than 100 international group shows • He is also engaged in a variety of projects and conferences / symposia on art, New Technologies, and poetry • Work by the artist is held in public museums and private collections, most notably in Greece, France, Belgium, and Germany • For more detailed information: http://www.costis.eu •

Costis est un artiste et poète grec né à Athènes le 8 février 1950. Après des études à l'université de science économique, il fuit la Grèce obliger par la dictature des colonels et vit plusieurs années à Paris. Là, il suit les cours de Jean-François Lyotard à Vincennes et obtient une licence de philosophie, ainsi qu'une maitrise de cinéma et d'arts plastiques et finie ces etudes au niveau du Doctorat d’état sous la direction de J.F.Lyotard. Son parcours artistique comprend entre autre son implication dans le mouvement international de Poésie visuelle, ce qui a donné lieu à des publications de livres à Athènes, ainsi qu'à sa participation à de nombreuses expositions collectives de poésie visuelle grecque. Il a été aussi rédacteur en chef à Athènes des revues Lotus et Praxis.
Ce qui caractérise le plus sa création artistique a été son intérêt pour le phénomène de la foudre et de l'éclair, qu'il a décliné sous forme de foudre électronique à travers des sculptures et des installations, soit sur des plaques de cuivre, soit au sommet de pylônes surmontés d'électrodes en cuivre, mais aussi en tant qu'écriture aléatoire. Un éclair, ce sont des milliers de petits points qui explosent dans l'atmosphère qui, à cause de la rapidité du phénomène, donnent l'illusion d'une ligne brillante. L'éclair est ce qui décide de la ligne la plus courte entre deux points, points et lignes qui sont des concepts fondamentaux dans l'histoire de l'art.
Ses éclairs, à partir de 1990, ont fait l'objet de nombreuses expositions en Grèce et en France, le critique Pierre Restany (1930-2003) s'est particulièrement intéressé à son travail. Et comme Frank Popper marque, dans son musée de l’ électricité organiser á travers l’ internet, Costis s’inscrit dans un mouvement artistique éco- technologique*.
* L'art " éco-technologique " selon la terminologie empruntée à Frank Popper, concerne les installations directement inspirées par des phénomènes naturels ou par les interprétations scientifiques de ceux-ci. Son parcours artistique comprend entre autre son implication dans le mouvement international de Poésie visuelle, ce qui a donné lieu à des publications de livres à Athènes, ainsi qu'à sa participation à de nombreuses expositions collectives de poésie visuelle grecque. Il a été aussi rédacteur en chef à Athènes des revues Lotus et Praxis.
Ce qui caractérise le plus sa création artistique a été son intérêt pour le phénomène de la foudre et de l'éclair, qu'il a décliné sous forme de foudre électronique à travers des sculptures et des installations, soit sur des plaques de cuivre, soit au sommet de pylônes surmontés d'électrodes en cuivre, mais aussi en tant qu'écriture aléatoire. Un éclair, ce sont des milliers de petits points qui explosent dans l'atmosphère qui, à cause de la rapidité du phénomène, donnent l'illusion d'une ligne brillante. L'éclair est ce qui décide de la ligne la plus courte entre deux points, points et lignes qui sont des concepts fondamentaux dans l'histoire de l'art.
Ses éclairs, à partir de 1990, ont fait l'objet de nombreuses expositions en Grèce et en France, le critique Pierre Restany (1930-2003) s'est particulièrement intéressé à son travail. Et comme Frank Popper marque, dans son musée de l’ électricité organiser á travers l’ internet, Costis s’inscrit dans un mouvement artistique éco- technologique*.
